Seokchon Lake Walk — Songpa's Quietest 2.5 km Loop (Right Next to Lotte World)

What is Seokchon Lake?

Seokchon Lake (석촌호수) sits in the middle of Songpa-gu, Seoul, surrounded by the city skyline — most famously the 555-meter Lotte World Tower. It is the only natural-type lake within Seoul, formed on the site of an old Songpa river port and shaped by the lower flow of the Han River.

Despite being right next to one of the busiest tourist spots in the country, the lake itself is genuinely quiet. The 2.5 km perimeter is fully walkable, fully paved, and used daily by locals for morning runs, evening strolls, and seasonal photography.

In 2025 it was selected for the Korea Top 100 Tourist Destinations, a list updated every two years by the Korea Tourism Organization based on data and expert review.

How to get there

FromRouteTime
Incheon AirportAirport Railroad → Line 9 (transfer) → Sincheon Stn.~75 min
Gangnam Stn.Line 2 → Jamsil Stn. (Exit 3)~25 min

The lake is split by Songpa-daero road into East Lake (동호) and West Lake (서호). The closest subway exits:

The 2.5 km loop, East & West

The full perimeter takes a relaxed 30–45 minutes to walk. The path is flat, stroller-friendly, and lit at night.

West Lake (서호) — the lively side

This is where most visitors start. Lotte World's open-air section, Magic Island, sits right on the water with a small castle that lights up after sunset. The west shore has more food carts, photo benches, and crowds.

East Lake (동호) — the quieter loop

Cross under Songpa-daero through the underpass and the atmosphere changes. The east side has a dedicated jogging path, more shade in summer, and fewer crowds. This is the side most locals choose for daily walks.

Walking direction tip

Most photo guides recommend starting from Jamsil Stn. Exit 3 → West Lake (counter-clockwise) → East Lake. You finish on the quieter side and end up close to Seokchon Stn., which connects to Line 8 and Line 9 for the next stop.

Practical tips for travelers

After your walk

Once you finish the loop, you're a short subway ride or a walk away from the rest of Songpa — including Olympic Park, the Han River, and one small bakery we run.

A small stop on the way back

Twelve minutes from Songpanaru Station (Line 9) — the same line as the south side of the lake — there's a small neighborhood bakery our team runs called Gosorihyang Confectionery (고소리향과자점).

We hand-bake peanut cookies every morning using 100% peanuts from Gochang, a southern Korean region known for its black-soil terroir. Many international travelers stop by on their way back to the hotel and pick up a small box as a take-home gift — the cookies hold for three weeks at room temperature, so they survive the flight.

If you're walking the lake in the late afternoon, we're usually open until 8 PM (Tue–Fri).
